ACF Industries (ACF) started producing this general type of 70t Plate C exterior post designed car in 1971, the design developed further into the seventies. The focus of boxcar design had moved away from general purpose interior posted cars to this more efficient welded cars. Specifically this version had a 10-foot sliding door with Evans Air-Pak loaders. They were assigned to many on-line customers but one key customer could have been Ralston Purina in Davenport. IA. Ralston-Purina had many plants across north america, however, the Davenport one was exceptionally large. Known as the largest Dog Food plant in the world at one time from 1961. The palletized loads were held tightly in place with the aid of the Evans Air-Pak system bladder style loaders.
